Explosion in downtown Villach – 4 people injured

In downtown Villach there was an explosion in an apartment building on Monday. Four people were injured.

Shortly before 6:30 a.m., a fire broke out in an apartment building in downtown Villach. The flames already hit an apartment on the first floor. A resident, even with the youth fire department, heard an explosion and woke her father. Together they put out the flames in the anteroom of the apartment with a hand fire extinguisher. However, smoke and soot were scattered throughout the house.

60 residents evacuated from residential building

There were also two petrol cans in the stairwell, which suggest a deliberate arson. Due to the confusing situation, the entire house was evacuated immediately. A 30-year-old resident of the house suffered burns of indefinite degree and was brought to the LKH Villach after first aid.

A total of 60 residents with small children and pets were taken outside and looked after by the Red Cross and the Samaritan Association and temporarily accommodated in a requested bus. A crisis intervention team from the Red Cross took care of the sometimes frightened children and their families.
