Wawrinka defeated Kasper Roode in the Swiss Indoor Tennis Tournament
Seasoned Grand Slam champions had a good day at the Swiss indoor tennis tournament on Tuesday as Stan Wawrinka defeated world number three Kasper Roode in the first round while Andy Murray also came back from the bottom to register a win. Switzerland’s Wawrinka, thirty-seven, gave the audience a chance to celebrate in his home tournament after beating Roode 6-4, 6-4 with the ninth ace of the match.

Roode was runner-up at the US Open last month. Wawrinka, who has been battling frequent injuries, is now world number 194 but has beaten two players in the top five of the world rankings in the past five weeks. He defeated number four Daniil Medvedev last month in Metz, France. Like Wawrinka, former US Open champion Murray defeated Roman Cefulin of Russia 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4.
