World champions Argentina in second place in new FIFA rankings, Brazil remains on top

Argentina fell to the top of the FIFA world rankings released on Thursday despite their World Cup title triumph, while Brazil managed to retain their number one spot. At the recently concluded World Cup in Qatar, Brazil lost to Croatia in the quarter-finals but the results of recent years have seen them collect enough points to keep them at the top of the rankings. The Argentine team has gained one place in the latest rankings to be in second place. France, who lost to Argentina in the final, has also moved up one place to third.

The Belgian team has slipped to the fourth position with a loss of two places. In Qatar, the team managed to win this one match and was eliminated from the group stage itself. England and the Netherlands, who lost in the quarter-finals, are fifth and sixth respectively. Croatia, which finished third in the World Cup, has gained five places to reach number seven. European champions Italy are eighth, despite failing to qualify for the World Cup. Morocco is the top African team with 11th position. He has gained 11 places. Japan, ranked 20th, is the top team in the Asian Confederation and has gained four places in the latest rankings. Australia’s team has reached number 27 with the benefit of 11 places. Both the teams had reached the pre-quarterfinals of the World Cup.
