Shami’s four wickets helped India beat Australia by six runs in the warm-up match

Mohammed Shami put an end to all speculations about his fitness as India led India to a thrilling six-run win over defending champions Australia in the first warm-up match of the T20 World Cup. KL Rahul (57 off 33 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (50 off 33 balls) helped India post 186 for seven when they were sent to bat first.

Australia needed 16 runs in the last 12 balls with six wickets remaining. After this bowler Shami, Harshal Patel and fielder Virat Kohli reversed the picture of the match. Shami, who last played competitive cricket in July, was returning after battling a corona infection. He bowled superbly in the last over, taking three wickets and one run out. Shami has been included in the squad as a replacement for the injured Jasprit Bumrah. Harshal gave only five runs in the 19th over and in the same over, Virat also got a run out on the exact throw. He also sent Pat Cummins to the pavilion by taking a brilliant one-handed catch near the boundary line.

Concerns about India’s bowling remain, however, with the first match against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup on 23 October. Captain Rohit Sharma said, “There is scope for improvement but I want consistent performance from the bowlers. It was a good match for us. They put pressure on us with good partnerships but Shami did a great job in the last over. Rahul batted very aggressively.

India’s score was 69 for no loss after the powerplay. Rohit and Rahul shared a 78-run partnership in which Rahul scored most of the runs. Hardik Pandya (two) was dismissed cheaply but the rest of the Indian batsmen contributed. Kohli scored 19 runs in 13 balls and Dinesh Karthik scored 20 runs in 14 balls. Karthik caught the ball of Kane Richardson to Glenn Maxwell. While Kohli was sent to the pavilion by Mitchell Starc, who was caught at fine leg. Rohit gives a catch to Maxwell. Rahul caught at deep midwicket off Maxwell’s ball.
