Nations Cup: Indian women’s hockey team beat Chile 3-1 in FIH Nations Cup

Valencia. The Indian women’s hockey team thrashed Chile 3-1 in their opening match of the FIH (International Hockey Federation) Nations Cup campaign here on Sunday. In this Pool B match, Kumari Sangeeta opened India’s account by scoring a goal in the second minute. Sonika and Navneet Kaur scored in the 10th and 31st minutes respectively to increase the team’s lead to 3-0. Chile’s Villagran Fernanda scored from a penalty corner in the 43rd minute. All three goals of the Indian team came from field efforts.

India will take on Japan in their second pool match on Monday. India had lost to Japan in the final of the 2018 Asian Games. The team will play the last match of the group stage against South Africa on 14 December. The knockout stage matches will be held on December 16 and 17. The 2022 FIH Women’s Nations Cup is an important tournament in the international calendar. Its winning team will get a place in the 2023-24 FIH Hockey Women’s Pro League.
