Vijay Diwas: Prime Minister paid tribute to the soldiers, said the country will be indebted to them

New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tributes to the armed forces personnel who played a significant role in ensuring India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war on the occasion of Vijay Diwas and said the country will always be indebted to them. In a tweet, Modi said, “On Vijay Diwas, I pay tribute to all the brave armed forces personnel who ensured India an extraordinary victory in the 1971 war.” The country will be indebted to the armed forces for their role in keeping the country safe.

Vijay Diwas is celebrated on this day to commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan in the year 1971. On this day in the year 1971, Pakistani Army Chief General Aamir Abdullah Khan Niazi along with his 93 thousand soldiers surrendered unconditionally in the war before Lieutenant General Jagjit Singh Arora. Arora was leading a combined force of the Indian Army and the Mukti Bahini in this battle. Bangladesh came into existence as a result of this war.
