Poor performance in T20 World Cup, Mohammad Nabi quits as captain of Afghanistan team

Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi resigned from his post with immediate effect on Friday following the team’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup. Afghanistan’s team could not win a single match in the T20 World Cup. Nabi, however, cited disappointment over the team’s preparations for the tournament and differences with the management and the selection committee to step down from the captaincy.

The team’s campaign in the T20 World Cup ended in a four-run loss to Australia here on Friday, soon after the 37-year-old announced his decision on social media. The spin all-rounder shared his statement on Twitter and wrote, “Our T20 World Cup journey is over, neither we nor the supporters were expecting this result. We are also disappointed with the outcome of the matches just like you. ,

“For the last one year, our team’s preparation was not at the level that a captain would want for a big tournament. Nabi wrote, “Even on the last few tours the team management, selection committee and I were not unanimous which affected the balance of the team. That’s why I immediately announce my step down as captain and I will continue to play for my country as and when the management and the team require me.
