Mumbai Riding high on confidence after a resounding Super Over win, the Indian women’s team will look to maintain that momentum with a better bowling and fielding performance in the third T20I against Australia here on Wednesday. More than 47000 spectators were present at the ground for Sunday’s match and both the teams did not disappoint them by offering them an exciting match. The Indian team, which often succumbed to victory against Australia, did not give up fighting till the last ball.

The victory, however, is a thing of the past and batting coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar said after the match that India will have to work harder to win the five-match series. Series 1 now. is equal to 1. India already had the capability to take on teams like Australia but there are a few aspects that need to be looked into in order to perform consistently. The Indian batsmen did their job well but the fielders and bowlers disappointed in the first two matches.

The hosts could only manage to take two wickets in the series so far, which is a cause for concern. Catching has also not been as expected. Fast bowler Meghna Singh gave a lot of runs and left arm fast bowler Anjali Sarwani could not get the early wickets. India’s successful bowler Renuka Thakur is also yet to find a wicket in the last six months. Wrist spinner Devika Vaidya is playing her first T20I series in eight years but has failed to impress with the bowling. During the batting, he definitely hit fours in the moments of pressure.

In the absence of Yastika Bhatia, Jemimah Rodrigues will have to score runs, having failed in the first two matches. Opener Shafali Verma will have to convert her aggressive start into a good innings. Australian skipper Alyssa Healy will be expected to lead from the front. India have put a halt to their winning run this year and Healy admitted their bowlers need to do better. Their opener Beth Mooney has been in fine form which she would like to continue.
