National hockey camp focused on gaining physical fitness and strength: Shopman
With an eye on the Hangzhou Asian Games, the Indian women’s hockey team will start preparations for a busy season ahead with the national camp starting here on Sunday for which 33 probables were shortlisted. Head coach Yanek Schopman said his focus would be on improving physical fitness for the busy season ahead. The Indian team recently returned from a tour of South Africa in which they thrashed the hosts 3-0 in a four-match series.
The Savita Poonia-led side also played three friendlies against world number one team Netherlands. Talking about the camp, Shopman said, “I am very happy that we can start our camp this coming week. We had a good tour of South Africa which gave us an idea of what we need to work on in the coming weeks. We will use this camp to focus on physical fitness to make sure our foundation is strong in the months ahead. The camp will end on March 26.
