Serum Institute of India (SII), manufacturer of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Kovid-19 vaccine in India, has said that the company has stopped its production in December 2021. SII CEO Adar Poonawalla said that we have stopped production of Kovidshield vaccine from December 2021. At that time we had a stock of a few hundred million doses and out of that 100 million doses were already exhausted.

no booster dose

Speaking on the sidelines of the Annual General Meeting of the Vaccine Manufacturers Network of Developing Countries in Pune, Poonawalla said the demand for booster doses has come down. He said that people were not willing to take a booster dose of the Kovid-19 vaccine. There is no longer any demand for boosters. People are fed up with the corona pandemic. To be honest, I am fed up with it too. He also said that Serum Institute of India has stopped production of Covishield from December 2021. He also said that out of the stock of Kovishield vaccine that was available when the company stopped its production, the deadline for using about 100 million doses has passed.

Mix and Match Booster Dose

Poonawalla further said that some vaccines are allowed to be mixed with others for a booster dose. Now Kovovax should be allowed to mix soon in two weeks so I think they should have a policy of mixing boosters. So my take is that I think the government will allow a booster dose with a mix. If WHO has allowed it, perhaps the Indian regulator will also allow it.
