No problem with Tesla manufacturing EVs in India, but don’t import from China: Gadkari

New Delhi| Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday said there is no problem if US company Tesla wants to manufacture its electric vehicles in India but it should not import cars from China. Speaking at the ‘Raisina Dialogue’ event, Gadkari said that India is a big market and there is a lot of potential for all electric vehicles.

“If Elon Musk (Tesla’s CEO) is ready to manufacture in India, no problem… Come to India and start manufacturing. India is a big market, they can export from India.

Gadkari said, “But if they want to manufacture in China and sell the vehicles in India, it may not be a good proposition for India.” Tax concessions can be considered only after it starts manufacturing its iconic electric vehicles.
