Hockey World Cup: Argentina held Australia to a draw, Netherlands beat New Zealand

Three-time champions Australia and formidable Argentina played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at the FIH Hockey World Cup here on Monday. Hayward Jeremy gave Australia the lead in the ninth minute from a penalty corner, but Argentina’s Domaine Tomas made it 1-1 in the 18th minute. Bill Daniels put Australia ahead once again with a field goal, but Argentina equalized again in the 32nd minute through Casella Meico.

Argentina took the lead for the first time in the match through Ferreiro Martin in the 48th minute and were on course to take the three points, but Govers Blake leveled Australia at 3–3 in the dying minutes and put the two teams at one point each. Got the score. In another Pool A match, France beat South Africa 2-1 thanks to two penalty corners by Charlotte Victor. Beauchamp Conor scored the only goal for South Africa from a penalty corner.

In their Pool C matches at Rourkela, three-time champions Netherlands thrashed New Zealand 4-0 while Malaysia beat Chile 3-2. Brinkman Thierry scored twice in the first quarter, while Bijen Koen and Hodemakers Zepp also scored a goal each as the Netherlands took a strong step towards the quarter-finals. The Netherlands are on top of Pool C with six points from two matches. After this comes the number of New Zealand, Malaysia and Chile.
