Lucknow Super Giants beat Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023, started the tournament by winning by a big margin of 50 runs, David Warner’s half-century went in vain

The third match of IPL 2023 was played between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals, in which Lucknow Super Giants started the tournament with a win. Lucknow beat Delhi by 50 runs. Under the captaincy of KL Rahul, Lucknow has continued its brilliant performance in this match played at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Mark Wood took five wickets in a strong performance.

Delhi Capitals won the toss and invited Lucknow to bat. After this, while batting first, the Lucknow team gave the target of 194 runs to Delhi at the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Whereas, in response to this, the Delhi team performed well in the initial over. Captain David Warner and Prithvi Shaw landed to open. The first wicket of Delhi Capitals fell as Prithvi Shaw. He was dismissed by Mark Wood on the score of 12 runs. After this, Mark Wood also gave the second blow to Delhi. He took Mitchell Marsh to the pavilion on the very first ball. The third wicket of Delhi Capitals fell at a score of 48 after 7 overs. Delhi’s third wicket fell in the form of Sarfaraz Khan, who was not allowed to survive by Mark Wood. Sarfaraz Khan got out after scoring four runs in just nine balls.

Big blow to Delhi

Delhi Capitals got the fourth blow in the form of Riley Russo, who was dismissed after scoring 30 runs. Please tell that the field umpire had given not out to Riley, but after taking DRS, the decision came in his favor and Riley’s wicket fell. Delhi’s fifth wicket fell as Powell Rovman, who was dismissed for just one run. Powell became the victim of Ravi Bishnoi. After this, Delhi’s wickets kept falling continuously. Lucknow played a brilliant innings
Batting first, the team of Lucknow Super Giants gave a huge target of 194 runs to Delhi Capitals. For Lucknow, opener Kyle Mayers took full advantage of the lifeline he got on 14 to hit a half-century of 73 as Lucknow Super Giants overcame a slow start to beat Delhi Capitals in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match here on Saturday. Scored a huge score of 193 runs for six wickets against. The innings of Lucknow Super Giants was full of sixes. His batsmen hit 16 sixes and only five fours. Apart from Meyers, Nicholas Pooran contributed 36 runs while in the end Ayush Badoni added 18 runs in seven balls.

Akshar Patel (1/38) bowled Mears with a brilliant turn to end his 38-ball innings which included two fours and seven sixes. Delhi Capitals decided to field after winning the toss and their left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed (2/30) got off to a good start in the first over, conceding just one run. The wicket was not looking good for batting, due to which the Lucknow Super Giants team was looking under pressure in the beginning and could only manage 30 runs for one wicket in the powerplay, which is also the team’s lowest score in the powerplay.

 Lucknow Super Giants captain Lokesh Rahul hit the first six of the innings on Chetan Sakaria (2/53) in the fourth over, but the same bowler reached the pavilion by giving a simple catch to Akshar Patel at deep square leg. Delhi Capitals missed a great opportunity to dismiss Meyers for a personal score of 14 runs in the sixth over when Khaleel dropped a catch off Sakariya. After this, Meyers hit Mukesh Kumar for two beautiful sixes over long on and midwicket in the very next over. Meyers hit Akshar Patel for a four and a six in the eighth over, while in the 10th over the same bowler hit two sky-high sixes.

He completed his half-century in 28 balls by hitting a six off Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav (1/35) in the ninth over. Deepak Hooda (17 runs) was supporting Meyers well, but the 79-run partnership for the second wicket was ended by Kuldeep Yadav in the 11th over. Akshar bowled Meyers in the 12th over to check the run rate of Lucknow Super Giants. Marcus Stoinis (12 runs) was also dismissed early, who was caught by Khaleel at the hands of the wicketkeeper. Puran then batted aggressively as soon as he landed at the crease, hitting two fours and three sixes in his 21-ball innings.
 
Ayush contributed 18 runs in seven balls with one four and two sixes. The team fielded ‘impact player’ Krishnappa Gautam to play the last ball, who hit it for a six. The Lucknow team lost two wickets in the last five overs and added 66 runs. Krunal Pandya remained unbeaten after scoring 15 runs.
