Sophie Devine confident of RCB’s return to WPL

Mumbai New Zealand batsman Sophie Devine is confident that her team will be able to make a comeback in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) despite Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) third consecutive defeat. RCB suffered a defeat against Gujarat Giants on Wednesday night. Chasing Gujarat Giants’ target of 202 runs, RCB’s team could manage only 180 runs for six wickets. RCB played a lot of empty balls and did not hit a single six till the 14th over, which is believed to be the main reason for the team’s defeat. Asked if the team failed to hit enough boundaries, Devine told reporters, “Of course not because we didn’t win.”

He said, “It is very difficult to give an exact reason (for the defeat) but probably we played too many empty balls. Sometimes it happens but you have to give credit to the bowlers who bowled brilliantly. Boundary, flat pitch and fast outfield. Here, twice in three matches, the team looted more than 200 runs. Devine hoped that he and his opening partner captain Smriti Mandhana would be able to score more runs. This pair has given good starts to the team in all the three matches so far.

England batsman Sophia Dunkley, who played a key role in guiding Gujarat to a big score of 65 off 28 balls in the match, said the pitch was batting friendly. Dunkley said, “I enjoyed it. I wanted to come out with a positive attitude after a few tough matches, get off to a good start and find some momentum. “He said,” A lot of runs are scored on this ground and when one finds the rhythm, it is very difficult to defend the score. It is just about trying not to let the opposition batsmen play big shots because Sophie Devine is a very powerful hitter and so is Heather Knight.
