Former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming believes that India should consider playing in foreign leagues, especially the Caribbean Premier League, keeping in mind the next T20 World Cup. The Cricket Board of India (BCCI) does not allow its players to play in foreign leagues. The weakness of the Indian players came to the fore in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup where they lost to England by 10 wickets.
Alex Hales and Jos Buttler, who played in the Big Bash League, had blown away the Indian bowlers. Fleming told ESPNcricinfo, “It can be considered especially if you hear from the commentators about Hales’ experience at the Adelaide Oval.” They actually gain valuable experience by playing in these domestic tournaments and then play more comfortably.
Fleming said the next T20 World Cup is to be held in the West Indies in two years and it cannot be a bad idea for Indians to play in the league there. “The Caribbean Premier League has become more important because the next World Cup will be played in the Caribbean region. The number of players you send to play in this tournament will have a good idea of the conditions there and will benefit from it in the World Cup.
