Indonesia Open 2023: The pair of Satwik and Chirag created history by becoming champions, Indian pair became the winner in 41 years

Jakarta. Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty created history by winning the Indonesia Open Super 1000 badminton title on Sunday. Together they won the Super 1000 level event by defeating Malaysian pair of Aaron Chia and Wooi Yik Soh 21-17, 21-18 in the final. The Indian pair, ranked sixth in the world rankings, has become the first Indian pair to win the title. This is the first Indian pair to win the title in the last 41 years.

 

Let us inform that the winner of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and the Asian champion Indian pair took 43 minutes to win this tough match. Please tell that after losing 7 times against the Malaysian pair, Satwik and Chirag got their first win. Beating the pair of Aaron Chia and Soh Wui Yik is very special for the Indian team as this pair is the world champion in men’s doubles. According to information, earlier the pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had created history by making it to the finals. Before this pair, which won the bronze medal in the World Championships in the year 2022, no pair could make it to the final of the Super 1000 tournament. The duo defeated Min Hyuk Kang and Seung Jae Seo of South Korea to make it to the final.

 

Significantly, the pair of Satwik and Chirag together has not done anything amazing for the first time. Even before this, both have brought laurels to India. Satwik and Chirag have earlier won the titles of Super 100, Super 300, Super 500 and Super 750. They are also the first Indian pair to win all the Super titles. In men’s singles, Kidambi Srikanth won the title in 2017.
