FIFA World Cup 2022: Cameroon need a win and a bit of luck against Brazil

Doha. Brazil coach Tite will try out all the reserve players when they take on Cameroon in their last Group G match late on Friday night after winning their opening two matches at the FIFA World Cup. On the other hand, Cameroon, who have a record of one loss and one draw in two matches, will need a win in this match as well as luck to make it to the pre-quarterfinals of the tournament.

Brazil has six points in this group while Switzerland has three and Cameroon and Serbia have one point each. The Brazilian team has already qualified for the knockout stage and coach Tite will now want to test the players sitting on the bench in this match. Star forward Neymar, right back Danilo and left back Alex Sandro will be unavailable due to injuries. Neymar was still nursing an injury to his right ankle and it was unclear when he would return.
Tite plans to use all reserves for the match, starting with Anderson in place of Alisson in goal. The experienced Dani Alves will find a place in the team’s defense while Fabinho is set to play in the midfield. Antony and Gabriele Martinelli are expected to be in the front row. Tite wants to field all the seven players who have not yet featured in the tournament. Midfielder Fabinho said that after the match against Switzerland, Tite had already told us that he wanted to change the lineup. He wants everyone to get a chance to play and we are happy with that decision.

Tite is also making this change because Brazil has to play a pre-quarterfinal match on Monday after this match and he wants to keep the main players fresh before the important match. The 39-year-old Alves could become the oldest Brazilian player to play in the World Cup. He will overtake Brazil captain Thiago Silva, 38, in Qatar. Alves’ last match at the World Cup was in the last-16 round of the 2014 tournament in Brazil. He could not go to the 2018 World Cup in Russia due to injury.

Cameroon will be looking to cross the group stage barrier for the first time since 1990. However, the team was also embroiled in controversy when goalkeeper André Onana was sent home from the FIFA World Cup on disciplinary grounds after falling out with coach Rigoberta Song. The Cameroon Football Federation said in a statement on Tuesday that the Inter Milan goalkeeper had been provisionally suspended from the team and that the suspension would last for the duration of the tournament in Qatar.
