Mohsin’s absence a big blow: Flower

Terming Mohsin Khan’s injury as a big blow for the team, Lucknow Super Giants head coach Andy Flower on Thursday said that he has “dropped the young fast bowler out of selection”. Flower said that if the left-arm bowler manages to make a comeback in the current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), it would be like a ‘bonus’ for the team. Mohsin performed brilliantly for his team in the first season of IPL last year. He will not be able to play most of the matches of the 2023 season due to a shoulder injury.

Flower said, “His absence has been a blow, there is no doubt about it. We are hoping that he can make a comeback in the last games of the tournament. “I had largely ruled him out as a selection option, and if he is fit during the tournament, I see it as a bonus. But I am certainly not expecting it.

When Flower was asked whether Mohsin’s absence would make the team weak in terms of bowling the last over. He said, “It will be known soon whether we are weak in the last overs or the middle overs. I don’t think so though. We don’t have to worry too much about what others think, our job is to play well on the field.

The former Zimbabwe veteran wicket-keeper batsman said that the team’s first target is to start well in the tournament. “Our target is clearly to win this competition. I think the first big step in that direction is to make the playoffs. We want to start it off with a good performance in the Delhi Capitals match on Sunday. He said, “We are playing at our home ground for the first time and are very excited about it. Our first target is to do well in the opening match.
