CAC asks selector’s applicants for future roadmap

Ashok Malhotra-led Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) on Monday asked the candidates for the post of national team selectors in the interview regarding future plans, including captaincy after Rohit Sharma, replacement of Rishabh Pant in wicket-keeping besides U-19. Questions related to team players and young spinners were prominent.

According to a source with knowledge of the matter, the CAC asked the candidates ‘what should be the three-year leadership plan across all formats after Rohit Sharma’s captaincy tenure ends?’.‘Who is the future spinner who can represent the team in all formats?’, ‘Is there anyone in the 2022 Under-19 World Cup winning squad who is ready for the national level?’, ‘ In the absence of Rishabh Pant, apart from Kona Bharat, can there be any other option for wicketkeeping, which can be tried in Tests?’.

Chetan Sharma, who attended the board’s review meeting on Sunday, may again become the chairman of the senior national selection committee. A senior BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity, “Chetan is the favorite for the post of president and Harvinder (Singh) also appeared for the interview. That’s why the possibility of his election is strong in the north and central region. The chairman of the junior selection committee, S Sharath, was also asked by the top BCCI officials to apply. He has a good understanding of young talent.

Former opener SS Das is a strong candidate to represent East Zone while Gujarat’s Mukund Parmar could represent West Zone. It is learned that this time the BCCI will give only one-year deal to the selectors to avoid any confusion. The source said, “This time it will be a one-year contract with the focus on the World Cup.
