Recurve archers are empty handed; India finished second in the World Cup

Shanghai. The recurve archers could not continue the good performance of the compound archers in the ‘World Cup Stage Two’ as India ended their campaign in second place in the table with three medals on Sunday. Korea did not participate in the season-opening World Cup in Antalya. The team won four gold, two silver and one bronze in the recurve section of the World Cup, taking its total to 11 medals. After the early exits of Tarundeep Rai, Atanu Das and young Neeraj Chauhan, India were pinning their hopes on rising archer Dheeraj Bommadevara. Korean archer Oh Jin Hock, however, defeated the Army man 0-6 (29-30, 28-29, 29-30) in straight sets in the pre-quarterfinals.

In the recurve mixed team event too, the pair of Dheeraj and Simranjit Kaur failed to hold on to the first set lead. The Indonesian pair saw them out 2-6 (39-35, 37-39, 37-38, 34-35) to bow out in the last-16 round. None of the Indian archers in this category could make it to the medal round. India won all its medals at this stage in the compound category. Prathamesh Javakar and Avneet Kaur won individual gold and bronze respectively while the pair of Ojas Deotale and Jyoti Surekha Vennam won gold in the mixed team category.
