Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding (39) died of breast cancer
Sarah Harding (39) of the British band Girls Aloud has died of breast cancer. Her mother reports this on Instagram. "It is with a heavy heart that I share the news today that my beautiful daughter Sarah has passed away," it sounds. Girls Aloud scored hits like "Sound of the underground" in the early 2000s.
Harding rose to fame in 2002 as a member of Girls Aloud. She sang alongside Nicola Roberts, Kimberley Walsh, Cheryl Tweedy and Nadine Coyle. Girls Aloud originated from a talent show on British commercial television: “Popstars: The Rivals”.
The group had several hits in the early 2000s ranging from “Sound of the underground”, “Love machine” and “The promise”. They also did a critically acclaimed cover of “Jump” by The Pointer Sisters for the romantic comedy “Love Actually.” Girls Aloud split in 2013.
Harding herself had announced on Instagram in August of last year that she was ill. She was suffering from breast cancer that had unfortunately spread to other parts of her body as well. In March of this year, her autobiography was published and she announced that she might not make it to Christmas.

Today it was finally her mother who announced her death on her Instagram page. “Many of you are aware of her battle with cancer and that she has continued to fight from her diagnosis until her last day,” it said. “I want to thank everyone for their support over the past year.”
She also writes that she knows she would not want to be remembered for her battle with the terrible disease, but as “the brilliant star that she was”.
