Win in second Test boosts India’s WTC final qualification hopes

The race to qualify for the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Test Championship final took another turn on Sunday as India came close to sealing a place in the final at The Oval on June 7 with a six-wicket win over Australia. Australia, despite the loss, are on top of the table with 66.67 per cent, while India have widened the gap between themselves and the third-placed team to 64.06 per cent with their win in the Delhi Test.

The result of the second Test in Delhi has reduced the teams in the race for the final from four to three. South Africa are out of the race, falling short of the required percentage points to finish in the top two. The only team to challenge this is Sri Lanka with 53.33 per cent marks. Sri Lanka have to play a two-Test series in New Zealand next month and will need to win both to have any hope of qualifying.
