COVID-19: Vietnam thanks countries and organizations for their solidarity

Hundreds of personalities, including United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, WTO Director-General, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, WIPO Director General Daren Tang, attended on September 17 in Geneva reception in honor of the 76 th National Day of Vietnam.

During this occasion, Ambassador Lê Thi Tuyêt Mai, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN, the WTO and other worldwide associations in Geneva, assessed the extraordinary financial exhibitions recorded by Vietnam lately.

Vietnam has achieved most of the Millennium Development Goals and is accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the diplomat said.

In particular, Vietnam has achieved many results in socio-economic development, poverty reduction, education and social equity, protection of human rights, empowerment of women and girls, she indicated.

In the context of the crisis of the coronavirus, the National Assembly and the Government of Vietnam are determined to implement the socio-economic development strategy for 2021-2030 adopted by the XIII th National Party Congress held earlier this year, she stressed.

Lê Thi Tuyêt Mai took this opportunity to thank countries and international organizations for supporting Vietnam to overcome the consequences of the pandemic and accelerate its access to sources of COVID-19 vaccines.

She additionally certified Vietnam’s dynamic commitments as an individual from the WHO Executive Board, the UN International Law Commission, President of the WIPO General Assembly since 2018, one of the Conference Presidents. demobilization in 2019, leader of ASEAN in 2020, and a non-extremely durable individual from the UN Security Council in 2020-2021.

Vietnam has announced its candidacy for the UN Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term, and was elected last August for the first time to the Postal Operations Council of the Universal Postal Union (UPU ) for the 2022-2025 mandate, she added.

Ambassador Lê Thi Tuyêt Mai expressed her conviction that by promoting multilateralism, international cooperation and cross-border solidarity, the international community will work together to combat the negative impacts of COVID-19 and help establish a new normal and to build a better future after the pandemic.
