Indian team will leave for Indonesia for Badminton Junior Asia Championship

Panchkula. An 18-member Indian badminton team will leave for Indonesia on Tuesday to participate in the Junior Asia Championships after a rigorous two-week training camp at the Tau Devilal Stadium here. The continental championship will be held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia from July 7 to 16. During this training camp, which lasted for fourteen days, the players had to undergo sports and fitness training.

The camp was jointly organized by REC Limited, Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Badminton Association of India (BAI). BAI Secretary General Sanjay Mishra said in a release issued here, “This two-week training camp has helped in preparing well ahead of the tournament. I am sure this camp has also helped the team to connect with each other and know each other better. The Indian team is in Group C in the tournament. There are also teams from Malaysia, Bangladesh and Hong Kong in this group.

The top two teams of the group will qualify for the knockout stage. India has won two gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal in the past. PV Sindhu won gold in 2012 while Lakshya Sen won gold in 2018. Indian Team: Boys Singles: Lakshya Sharma, Samarveer, Aayush Shetty and Dhruv Negi. Girls’ Singles: Rakshita Sri S, Shriyanshi Valishetty, Tara Shah and Anmol Kharb. Boys’ doubles: Nicholas Nathan Raj/Tushar Suvir and Divyam Arora/Mayank Rana. Girls’ doubles: Radhika Sharma/Tanvi Sharma and Karnika Sri S/Tanisha Singh. Mixed Doubles: Samarveer/Radhika Sharma and Arulmurgan R/Srinidhi N.
