Jyoti, Arjun Pradhan to lead elite women’s and men’s challenge at Kochi Marathon

Kochi. National champions Jyoti Gawte and Arjun Pradhan will lead the challenge in the women’s and men’s elite sections respectively at the Kochi Marathon 2023 here on Monday. The marathon will start from the Maharaja College Ground here. Apart from the marathon (42.195 km), the race will be held in other three categories of half marathon (21.097 km), 10 km run and 3 km green run. More than 6,000 runners from 20 states have registered to participate in the marathon.

New Delhi Marathon winner Jyoti (best clocking 2:45:48) will face challenge from Ashwini Jadhav and Arpita Saini in the women’s elite category. The best performance of both the runners, however, is more than three hours. In the men’s elite section, Arjun (best clocking 2:20:6) is likely to face stiff competition from the likes of Anil Kumar Yadav, Vipul Kumar and Neeraj Kumar Maurya.

Amarjeet Singh Chawla in the men’s and Lata Alimchandani’s performance in the women’s half marathon will be watched. Chawla is a visually impaired runner but has participated in 146 half marathons and 229 races. Latha is the first Indian woman over the age of 60 to complete a World Marathon Major. The total prize money of this event is Rs 10 lakh.
