Sunrisers batsmen should have been more active: Lara

Hyderabad. Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Brian Lara blamed his batsmen for failing to chase down a relatively small target against Delhi Capitals and said that they took too long to show their attacking attitude. Sunrisers suffered a seven-run defeat at the hands of Delhi on Monday night, their third consecutive defeat. The Sunrisers batsmen adopted a very defensive approach which cost them dearly. He had a target of 145 runs in front of him but in the end he was able to score only 137 runs for six wickets. Lara said in the post-match press conference, “There was no disturbance in the pitch and we should have shown more activity throughout the innings.”

He said, “We left everything for last. I would have liked if our batsmen could take full advantage of the power play. We gave them a chance to take wickets and dominate in the middle overs. Sunrisers could manage only 36 runs in the power play while half of their team returned to the pavilion for 85 runs in 14.1 overs. Lara said, “The first 15 overs are very important and by then we should have been in a much better position. Sunrisers will now have to perform well in each match to make it to the playoffs. Lara said, “Now we have to think ahead and unite soon. There is no doubt that now the road is difficult for us and we have to play more responsibly.
