India made its debut in Wimbledon in this year
Sardar Nihal Singh was the first Indian player to participate in Wimbledon in 1908. He lost in his debut year itself but the next year he made a comeback in this tournament and gave India its first Wimbledon victory. On the other hand, if we talk about the women’s category, in the year 1929, Jenny Sandison played the first match for India in the tournament.

Who won India’s first match and when?
Sardar Nihal Singh won the first ever victory for India on tennis grass courts. He won 6–2, 6–4 against Louis Trascenster of Belgium in the opening round of the Plate tournament in 1909. India’s first win in the main draw came in 1910 with the success of Hasan-Ali Fizzy. In the women’s category, Jenny Sandison gave India its first win. She achieved this feat in 1929 in women’s doubles. In women’s singles, India’s first win came in 1934 when Leela Ro Dayal beat Gladys Southwell.

Who is the first Indian to reach the finals?
Lewis Dean is the first Indian to reach the final of Wimbledon. She achieved the milestone in the year 1923 in mixed doubles with Dorothy Shepherd-Barron of Great Britain. Lewis and Dorothy were defeated 4-6, 5-7 by the US-UK pair of Elizabeth Ryan and Randolph Lysette in the match.

This player won the first title
India had to wait a long time to win the Wimbledon title. Leydon Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi won the men’s doubles Wimbledon title for the first time at the 1999 Wimbledon Championships. They also reached the finals of the Australian Open and the French Open, where both won the French Open. After this, in the year 2015, Sania Mirza became the first Indian female player to win the singles Wimbledon title. She and Swiss veteran Martina Hingis teamed up to win the women’s doubles title, defeating Ekaterina Makarova/Elena Vesnina 5–7, 7–6(7–4), 7–5. Sania Mirza remains the only Indian woman to win the Wimbledon title till date.

Who is the Indian with the most titles?
Leander Paes holds the record for winning the most Wimbledon titles by an Indian tennis star. Let us tell you that Leyndak Paes has won the Wimbledon title a record five times, out of which four have been in mixed doubles. He is the player with the most titles, having won four mixed doubles Wimbledon titles. Owen Davidson of Australia also shares this record with him.
