Retired boxer Amir Khan banned for two years for doping
Retired British boxer Amir Khan has been banned from all sports for two years after testing positive for a banned substance after the final bout of his career. Former light-welterweight world champion and Olympic silver medalist Amir had tested positive for Ostarine, an anabolic agent, following a loss in his bout against Kell Brook in Manchester in February 2022. Britain’s Anti-Doping Organization gave this information on Tuesday. Ostarine is a ‘selective androgen receptor modulator’ which helps in building muscles.
Amir, who announced his retirement three months after his bout against Brook, admitted an anti-doping rule violation but said he did not use the substance intentionally. His claim was accepted by the independent panel after a hearing in January. His ban will end on April 5, 2024. Amir, one of Britain’s best boxers of his era, retired with a 34-6 win-loss record but an independent panel overruled the result of his bout against Brook.
