Talking to PTI, former Uttar Pradesh Ranji player Raza said that it is ironic that despite having so many quality cricketing talents in Uttar Pradesh, they do not get a chance. Raza said that three teams namely Mumbai, Vidarbha and Maharashtra play Ranji Trophy tournament in Maharashtra. Similarly in Gujarat also teams from Saurashtra, Baroda and Gujarat participate in this prestigious tournament. The presence of more than one team results in a relatively greater number of sporting talents from these states. A similar model should be implemented in Uttar Pradesh as well.

He said that being a former Ranji player, he has written a letter to the BCCI in this regard, but now he demands the UPCA to send a proposal to the BCCI to form four different Ranji teams according to the region in Uttar Pradesh. Women players should be given special preference in this council. These players should give suggestions to the government from time to time for better development of sports so that the level of sports in the state can be improved. Raja stressed on the need to give administrative responsibilities to more and more players in various sports organizations including the Uttar Pradesh Olympic Association. He said that in most of the sports federations, such people are handling the administration, who are not particularly concerned with sports and sportspersons.
