Manipur crushes Bengal 4-1, Army draws with Delhi

Manipur beat Bengal 4-1 to keep themselves in the semi-finals race while Delhi extended their wait to reach the last four by holding Army to a 1-1 draw in the Santosh Trophy football tournament, here on Wednesday. In the first match of the day, Manipur notched up a big win over multiple-time champions Bengal to move up to the second spot in Group B with six points. Naoba Meitei (11th), Squash Singh (37th) and Nocha Singh (90+4) scored for Manipur.

Apart from this, Biswajit Hembrom of Bengal scored an own goal in the 81st minute. Souvik Kar scored the lone goal for Bengal in the 54th minute. In the second match of Group B, PP Shafeel’s own goal in injury time (90+3) cost Army dearly and they had to share points with Delhi. Earlier, Christopher Kamei had given Army the lead in the 21st minute. The third match of the day was played between Meghalaya and Railways which ended in a goalless draw.
