Only one member will work in WFI panel for at least one week

The three-member ad-hoc committee set up to conduct the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections will have to work with only one member for at least one more week as another member Suma Shirur is in Baku with the national shooting team while the High Court The retired judge has not yet been appointed. Shirur could not attend the first meeting of the ad-hoc panel on Monday as he is in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku along with India’s 34-member contingent for the ISSF World Cup. A senior official of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) confirmed that Suma is in Baku with the team.

The World Cup will end on May 15 and after that the rifle shooter will be able to attend panel meetings. In such a situation, till Shirur returns home, the other member of the panel, Bhupendra Singh Bajwa, will have to shoulder the entire responsibility. The Sports Ministry, on April 24, stayed the WFI elections scheduled for May 7 and asked the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to conduct the elections within 45 days and appoint an ad-hoc committee to look into the functioning of the wrestling federation. . The IOA had on April 27 constituted an ad-hoc panel comprising Bajwa, president of the Wushu Federation of India, Shirur and a retired high court judge. The name of the retired judge has not been announced yet. The ad-hoc committee has to take some important decisions which include WFI elections besides preparing the road ahead for the wrestlers.
