India bags four medals on opening day of Asian Youth Athletics Championships

India made a positive start to the Asian Youth Athletics Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, winning four medals, including a gold, here on Thursday. Aarti opened India’s medal tally in the morning session with a bronze in the girls’ 5km walk. India’s Khushboo Yadav finished fourth in the same event. Indian athletes won gold and silver medals in track events in the evening session. India also won a bronze medal in the girls’ long jump event. India won the gold and silver medals in the boys’ 1500m event. Priyanshu beat compatriot Rahul and put the gold medal in his bag.

Priyanshu clocked 3:57.37 while Rahul finished second with a timing of 3:59.43. In the long jump event, Mubasina Mohammed won the fourth medal for India with a jump of 5.90 metres. India’s Neha Yadav finished fourth in the girls’ shot put event with a timing of 52.91m. India’s Rejoana Malik was the fastest woman runner in the preliminary round of 400 metres. He made it to the final by taking a time of 53.65 seconds. In the boys’ 400m event, Navpreet Singh and Sharan Meghavarnam also qualified for the finals.
