Archery World Cup Stage II: Jyoti finishes sixth, Korea dominates

India’s experienced compound archer Jyoti Surekha Vennam, who shot a world record-equalling qualifying score in Antalya last month, could not replicate that success and slipped to sixth place in the World Cup second stage. After shooting a record-equalling 713 in the second stage of the World Cup, Jyoti could only manage a score of 693 and could not find a place in the top five. The Korean team, which was knocked out of the first leg in Antalya, bagged the top seeds in both the men’s and women’s events.

Veteran Oh Yuhyun and 2017 world champion Song Yun finished in the top two spots. Jyoti got a bye in the first round. Aditi Swami shot 689 to finish 12th and Avneet Kaur shot 687 to finish 16th. India has got the third seed in the team category. In the men’s section, Ojas Deotale, who won the mixed team gold medal with Jyoti in Antalya, finished 17th. Rishabh Yadav finished 25th, Prathamesh Javkar finished 33rd. The Indian team finished fifth behind Korea, Denmark, Turkey and Mexico. Jyoti and Ojas will again enter the mixed team category, seeded sixth, meaning they will not face Korea before the final. They have to play Bangladeshi team in the first round.
