Kerala bounces back with Sachin Baby’s unbeaten century

Veteran batsman Sachin Baby (133 not out) hit his ninth first-class century as hosts Kerala recovered from a poor start to post 254 for six on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy Group C match against Army here on Tuesday. Sachin came out to bat when Kerala were in trouble after losing four wickets for 19 runs in the ninth over. Sachin shared useful partnerships with Salman Nizar (42) and Akshay Chandran (32). At the end of the day’s play, captain Sijomon Joseph was supporting Sachin by scoring 29 runs.

Sachin has so far hit 11 fours in his innings of 235 balls. Poonam Poonia and Divesh Pathania took two wickets each from the Army side. 18 wickets fell on the first day of the match between Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh in Jamshedpur. Jharkhand’s team was reduced to 103 runs in front of the sharp bowling of Ravi Kiran (five wickets for 42 runs), Pankaj Kumar Rao (three wickets for 27 runs) and Vasudev Bareth (two wickets for 27 runs). Chhattisgarh, however, lost eight wickets for 95 runs despite Avinash Dhaliwal’s unbeaten 46. In Alur, Karnataka have scored 106 runs for two wickets after stacking Rajasthan for 129 runs. For Karnataka, Vasuki Kaushik and Vijay Kumar Vishak took four wickets each. Porvorim scored 17 runs without losing a wicket after Puducherry bundled out Goa for 223.
