FIFA World Cup 2022: Abubakar’s goal did wonders, Cameroon held Serbia to a 3-3 draw

Queue. Substitute Vincent Aboubakar scored a goal and assisted another as Serbia came from behind to hold Qatar 3-3 in their FIFA World Cup Group G match here on Monday. Abubakar fired past Serbia goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic in the 64th minute and then assisted striker Eric Maxim Chopo two minutes later.

This is the first time in the ongoing World Cup in Qatar that the match ended in a draw despite both the teams taking the lead. With this draw, both the teams got one point each. The team that wins the Group G match between Brazil and Switzerland on Monday will decide its place in the knockouts. Cameroon took the lead in the 29th minute through central defender Jean-Charles Castelletto. It looked like Cameroon would hold on to the lead until half-time but Strehinja Pavlovic equalized in the first minute of first half injury time to make it 1-1.

Midfielder Sergej Milinković Savić put Serbia ahead 2–1 two minutes later with a thunderous shot from 20 metres. Striker Aleksandar Mitrovic scored another goal in the 53rd minute to put Serbia ahead 3-1 at the Al Zeinob Stadium. Cameroon coach Rigobert Song did not give goalkeeper Andre Onana a chance for this match. The reason for Onana’s ouster is not known but there are reports that he was dropped for disciplinary reasons.
