New Delhi’s ‘Slum Soccer’ Nominated for Laureus ‘Sport for Good’ Award

London. New Delhi-based ‘Slum Soccer’ was on Monday nominated for this year’s Laureus ‘Sport for Good’ award. The ‘Slum Soccer’ football project aims to provide education and improve the quality of life of the homeless in the Indian capital. The Laureus ‘Sport for Good’ award recognizes an individual or organization that has made a significant contribution to transforming the lives of children and young people through sport. Slum Soccer will compete with four other candidates for the prize.

Argentina’s World Cup-winning captain Lionel Messi and France’s Kylian Mbappe, who won the Golden Boot award by scoring a hat-trick in the final, have been nominated for the Laureus Player of the Year award. Formula One driver Max Verstappen, tennis star Rafael Nadal and Messi are among those nominated for 2023 who have already won the award. Mondo Duplantis and Steph Curry have also been nominated for the top prize in the men’s category.

In the women’s category, Shelley Ann Fraser Price, Sydney McLaughlin Levron, Katie Ledecky, Alexia Putelas, Mikayla Shiffrin and Inga Swiatek are in the running for the award. Argentina men’s soccer team, Real Madrid, NBA team the Golden State Warriors, Oracle Red Bull Racing team, France men’s rugby team and England women’s soccer team were nominated for Team of the Year.
