IND vs WI: Jaiswal left behind Azharuddin, Sachin and Ganguly, made a great record in this matter

India cricketer Yashasvi Jaiswal is currently unbeaten on 143 after two days of play in the ongoing first Test against the West Indies. He has made many records in his first test itself. Interestingly, the young left-hander has reached the top of the list of Indians with an amazing record leaving behind many other players like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Mohammad Azharuddin. Jaiswal has so far faced 350 balls for his unbeaten 143, which included 14 fours.

Azharuddin had a record

This is the most balls faced by an Indian on Test debut. The list was topped by former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin, who played 322 balls in his Test debut in 1984. He scored 110 against England in his first red-ball game. The next name in this list is that of another former India captain, Sourav Ganguly. He had a stellar performance at Lord’s in 1996, scoring 131 off 301 balls. In the same Test match, India’s current coach Rahul Dravid made his debut and though he missed out on a decent century. He faced 267 balls to score 95 runs.

This is a good chance to make a record

Like Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma also made his Test debut against the West Indies in 2013 and faced 301 balls to score a brilliant 177 at the Eden Gardens. Yashasvi Jaiswal now has a great chance to break into the top 10 in terms of facing most balls in Test debut. Alastair Cook is 10th on this count, having faced 403 balls in his Test debut, while Devon Conway is just above him with 411 balls. Jaiswal also has a chance to score a brilliant double century and become the first Indian player to cross the 200-run mark in the longest format of the game.
