On getting support from Park, Sindhu said, my coach expressed his feelings

PV Sindhu had to face defeat against arch-rival Carolina Marin in the first round after returning after five months due to injury. Keeping in mind his long absence from the court, coach Park Tae-seung shared an emotional post after the loss. On Monday, two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu spoke about the support she received from foreign coaches after her loss at the Malaysia Open, saying coming back from injury is difficult in itself.

The coach wrote on Instagram, “Back after five months and unfortunate results.” It is my fault as a coach that he has not been able to achieve success. We will prepare for the India Open next week in Delhi. Please encourage Sindhu instead of targetting her. I will try more.” When asked about this post, Sindhu said, “Coming back after injury is a difficult task in itself. My coach expressed his feeling as we haven’t played for the last five months. But we have to be happy that we tried to play against Marin after his injury. I hope good days will come.

As far as their head-to-head encounters are concerned, this was Sindhu’s 10th defeat against Marin, who had defeated the Indian in the final of the 2016 Rio Olympics. A returning Sindhu said she is satisfied with her recovery and hopes to showcase her new skills at the India Open Super 750 tournament starting here on Tuesday. Sindhu had suffered a stress fracture in her left ankle while winning the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in August last year. He had lost a close match against Marin in Kuala Lumpur last week.

“I was on a break for five months so when I made my comeback in January, I was happy to be back on court playing in Malaysia,” Sindhu told PTI on the eve of the India Open tournament. In Malaysia, I was happy that I could give my best against Marin. Overall I was satisfied with my game. Playing at a certain level, coming back from injury and playing at that level is not easy. Winning and losing are part of the game but you have to be satisfied.

Former champion Sindhu will face Thailand’s Supanida Ketthong, against whom she had lost in the previous tournament, in the first round of the India Open. “I am playing against Supanida, you cannot take her lightly. I have played a few matches against her and lost to her last time at the India Open so it will not be easy. Hopefully it will be the opposite result this time.” Sindhu said, “Every match will be tough for me because all the top players will be here so every round will be tough.

I can’t say that I will win it but I will give my best. In the context of next year’s Olympics, Sindhu, who won silver and bronze medals in the last two Olympics, said, “2023 has already started. It is an Olympic qualification year, there will be a lot of tournaments so we have to plan things, which competition to play and none. Every tournament will be important for me.
