FIFA: Scaloni, Ancelotti, Guardiola in race for FIFA best coach award

Zurich. Lionel Scaloni, Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola have been nominated for the FIFA best coach award, while Walid Regragui could not get enough votes despite Morocco’s impressive run to the semi-finals at the World Cup. Argentina’s Scaloni, Real Madrid’s Ancelotti and Manchester City’s Guardiola have been nominated as finalists for the ‘FIFA Best Coach of the Year 2022’ award in an online vote by a selection committee of coaches and captains from around the world, select media and fans. Argentina won the World Cup, Madrid the UEFA Champions League and City the English Premier League title.

Walid was appointed coach of Morocco three months before the World Cup and his team went unbeaten in their group with Belgium and Croatia. Morocco defeated Spain and Portugal but lost to defending champions France. Since the FIFA Coaching Awards were introduced in 2010, no coach from Africa, or coach of an African team, has reached the final three. It is dominated by European and South American coaches.
