India’s top doubles player Rohan Bopanna on Wednesday said he will end his Davis Cup career against Morocco in September but his dream of playing a farewell match in his home state Karnataka will not come true as AITA has decided to first host the tie in Uttar Pradesh. Already given. India will play Morocco in September in a World Group 2 match. Bopanna, who made his Davis Cup debut in 2002, has played 32 matches for India.
He said from London, “I am thinking of playing my last Davis Cup match in September. I have been with the team since 2002. I wanted this match to be held in Bangalore and I also talked to the Indian players about this. All of them were happy to play in Bengaluru. Now the federation has to see whether they want to hold the match in Bengaluru or not. Can it be done there? Everyone can come and watch me play for the last time. ,
The All India Tennis Association (AITA), however, told PTI that the match cannot be hosted by the Karnataka Pradesh Lawn Tennis Association. AITA general secretary Anil Dhupar said, “It would have been better for Rohan to play his last match for India in Bengaluru but we have already given the hosting to Uttar Pradesh. The match will be in Lucknow and it is already decided.” Leander Paes has played the maximum 58 matches for India, followed by Jaideep Mukherjee 43, Ramanathan Krishnan 43, Premjit Lal 41, Anand Amritraj 39, Mahesh Bhupathi 35 and Vijay Amritraj has played 32 matches.
Bopanna won 12 singles and 10 doubles matches in 32 matches. Asked whether he would continue to play on the ATP tour, he said, “If I don’t play on tour, no other Indian is going to replace me.” If I don’t play Wimbledon, no other Indian will take my place. In Davis Cup, however, only an Indian will play in my place.
