Lovlina, Nikhat and Manju Rani in semi-finals of 6th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championship

Tokyo Olympics bronze-medallist Lovlina Borgohain, defending world champion Nikhat Zareen and 2019 World Championship silver-medallist Manju Rani produced impressive performances to advance to the semi-finals of their respective weight categories at the 6th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championship here on Saturday. Lovlina, representing Assam, defeated Meena Rani of RSPB (Railway Sports Promotion Board) 5-0 in the 75 kg quarterfinal bout. She will now face Jigyasa Rajput of Madhya Pradesh in the semi-finals.

Nikhat also had no trouble in the quarterfinals of 50kg against Tanishka Chavar of Goa and won by RSC (referee stoppage) in the second round. Now Nikhat will face Shivinder Kaur Sidhu of All India Police. RSPB’s Manju Rani defeated Chandigarh’s Simran by 5-0 unanimous decision in the quarterfinals of 48kg. Now she will be in front of Anjali Sharma of Madhya Pradesh. Jyoti (52kg) and Shashi Chopra (63kg), representing RSPB, also advanced to the next round. While 2018 World Championship bronze medalist Simranjit Kaur defeated Barbie Gogoi of Assam from RSC in the 60 kg weight category.
