Dip of faith amid Corona epidemic: Gangasagar fair starts in West Bengal from today

Calcutta | Gangasagar Mela 2022: Gangasagar Mela has started in West Bengal from Friday today amidst the rapidly growing corona infection in the country. Every year lakhs of devotees from all over the country reach this fair and take a dip in the Ganges. This time Gangasagar Mela will run till January 16. Let us tell you that every year Gangasagar fair is organized on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. On the day of Makar Sankranti, there is a law to take a dip in Gangasagar. This time Makar Sankranti will be celebrated on January 15.

Permission to organize religious fair with conditions
Gangasagar Mela 2022: Along with the country, cases of corona infection are increasing rapidly in West Bengal as well. In view of this, there was a possibility of cancellation of Gangasagar fair this time. A petition was also filed in this regard in the Calcutta High Court, but the court allowed the organization of this religious fair with conditions. After which this religious fair has started from today.

Court formed a committee to follow the rules
The Calcutta High Court has given permission to organize this fair after assurance from the Government of West Bengal. Expressing concern about Corona, the court said that on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, thousands of devotees, sadhus and tourists come to Gangasagar to take a dip. In such a situation, when the devotees take a dip in the Ganges, then the infection of corona through the water of the river should not infect the residents living there. After which the Advocate General of the state has said that people living on Sagar Island have been given both doses of the vaccine and the positivity rate is under control. After which the court gave permission to organize this fair with certain conditions.
