Srikanth beats Ng Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong in second round of Denmark Open

Former champion Kidambi Srikanth overcame a tough challenge from Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long Angus to enter the second round of the Denmark Open Super 750 badminton tournament here on Tuesday. Srikanth had won the title here five years ago. World Championships 2021 silver medalist Srikanth defeated world No. 14 Hong Kong player 17-21, 21-14, 21-12 in a match that lasted 56 minutes. Earlier the record between these two players was tied at 3-3.

Srikanth was initially given a tough challenge by Angus and he soon fell behind. The Hong Kong player held an 11-8 lead till the interval of the first game. Angus did not give any chance to the Indian player after that and won the first game. In the second game, Srikanth initially took a 6-3 lead but Angus soon made a comeback to take a 10-8 lead.

Srikanth improved his game at the right time and scored eight consecutive points to take a 16-10 lead. He did well after that and dragged the match to the deciding game. Srikanth got off to a good start in the third game and was on a strong 11-4 lead till the interval. After this he collected some great shots and won this game and the match. Srikanth will next take on the 2021 world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore.
