Deepika returned to practice twenty days after giving birth to a daughter

Twenty days after becoming a mother, India’s famous archer Deepika Kumari left her newborn daughter with her in-laws and returned to the Sports Authority of India’s practice center with a 44-pound bow and arrow. Deepika is eyeing a return to the Indian team through the Open Senior National Trials to be held here from January 10 to 17. Twice ranked world number one archer in a career spanning over a decade, Deepika has won everything except an Olympic medal. Next year the Olympics are in Paris and Deepika knows this is her last chance.

The three-time Olympian told PTI, “What to do, there is no other option. If I don’t turn up for the trials, I will be out of the team for the whole year.” She comes to practice with her husband and India’s number one archer Atanu Das. Atanu was also dropped from the Indian team after the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Both could not make the cut even in the trials held for the World Cup and Asian Games. After the Hangzhou Asian Games were postponed to 2023, Deepika made a comeback in the third stage of the World Cup in Paris in June last year by winning a silver medal in the team event.

After that she went on maternity leave. She said, “I practiced till the seventh month of pregnancy. After that some problem came so I had to stop the practice. Thankfully I had a normal delivery so I was able to return in 20 days.” It wasn’t that easy and she cried for hours the first time she left the baby. He said, “She used to drink only my milk and started crying when she did not get it. We leave home at 7:30 in the morning and reach only in the evening. Now slowly he is getting used to it. I have to leave him alone to play the tournament. ”””” He said, ”Thankfully, the people of Atanu’s house are very cooperative.
