PCB chief Sethi’s statement came after Asia Cup 2023 hybrid model was approved, said- ‘ACC President Jai Shah…’

The BCCI has long refused to play Asia Cup 2023 in Pakistan. After this, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) insisted that the matches be played on a hybrid model so that it would get a chance to host non-India matches. After months of negotiations with the BCCI, the Asian Cricket Council has finally given its nod.

The ACC has announced on Thursday that the Asia Cup will be held in Sri Lanka and Pakistan from August 31 to September 17. That is, it is certain that the matches between India and Pakistan will be played in Sri Lanka. The tournament will begin in Lahore, Pakistan, which will also clash with Nepal. Three matches of the second group – Bangladesh vs Afghanistan, Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh – will also be played in Lahore.

The matches of the tournament will be sent to Sri Lanka when matches between India and Pakistan take place. Both will need to beat Nepal to qualify for the next round. Only after this the match will be played between the two teams. Let us tell you that organizing the Asia Cup is very important for PCB because multi-national cricket is returning to Pakistan after a long time of 15 years. Earlier in the year 2008, Pakistan had organized the Asia Cup.

In this regard, PCB Chairman Najam Sethi said that I am happy that our hybrid version has been accepted for the ACC Asia Cup 2023. This means that the PCB will remain as the event host and the matches will be staged in Pakistan with Sri Lanka as the neutral venue. The need for which was due to the inability of the Indian cricket team to travel to Pakistan.

He said that our passionate fans would have liked to see the Indian cricket team in action in Pakistan for the first time in 15 years, but we understand the position of the BCCI. Like the PCB, the BCCI also needs permission from the government to cross the border. In this situation, the hybrid model was the best solution, which we also advocated.

Said this about Jai Shah
Najam Sethi said that I appreciate the efforts taken by ACC President Jay Shah to strengthen ACC. This will enable us to continue to collectively protect each other’s interests. Together, they will continue to provide opportunities and platforms to Asian countries going forward.
