Dmitry Dmitruk appointed foreign coach of Indian boxing team

The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) on Tuesday appointed veteran coach Dmitriy Dmitruk as the foreign coach of the national team for the next two years. Dimitruk has been working as a ‘High Performance Coach’ in the Irish Athletic Boxing Association for the past 12 years. He will serve as the foreign coach of India’s men’s and women’s boxing team in upcoming prestigious events including the World Championships.

In a media release, Dimitruk said, “India has emerged as a strong pillar of boxing in recent years and I am delighted to have the opportunity to coach a bunch of talented boxers.” With the experience he has, I am sure we will continue to do well in prestigious tournaments.” The 47-year-old coach has been instrumental in taking Ireland forward in the sport of boxing.

He has coached several top boxers including 2015 and 2017 World Championships silver medalist Joe Ward and 2019 European Games bronze medalist Granny Walsh. On his appointment, BFI President Ajay Singh said, “We are delighted to appoint Dmitri Dimitruk as the foreign coach of the Indian boxing team.He has proven himself as a coach during his stint with the Boxing Federation of Ireland. “We have full faith in his abilities to coach our talented boxers. His appointment will definitely enhance India’s chances of winning more and more medals at the Paris Olympics.
