Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is not a psychological thriller but a horror comedy: Anees Bazmee
Mumbai Filmmaker Anees Bazmee says he wanted to make his upcoming film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 purely as a horror comedy, leaving out the psychological thriller element of the original film to avoid any direct comparisons. . The 2007 hit film Bhool Bhulaiyaa, directed by Priyadarshan, featured Akshay Kumar as a psychiatrist who is tasked to find out the reason behind supernatural activities in a mansion. Bhool Bhulaiyaa, the Hindi remake of the 1993 Malayalam film Manichitrathaju, starring Mohanlal, was screened as a horror comedy before turning into a climax, a psychological thriller.
In the sequel (Bhool Bhulaiyaa-2), actor Kartik Aaryan will be seen in the role of Kumar, with Bazmee saying that he wants to turn things around. I was clear that I didn’t want to make a psychological thriller. If I had made it that way, it would have been a direct comparison. When you watch this movie, it will remind you of part one, but it’s not really the same. The filmmaker told PTI- If I offer you the same film, then what is the point of making a sequel? My film is basically a horror comedy. You will keep getting glimpses of the same world but still you will be watching a new film. He said, Bhool Bhulaiyaa was also a remake. I didn’t have that privilege, that oh, here’s a superhit film, let’s remake it.
It meant we had to start from the beginning, work hard at the script level to get everything right. I just had to concentrate to get this right, Bazmee said. Since I had never made horror films, I was excited. It was a new field for me, a new challenge. Since my comedy films have been successful, people think that I can only make films in this genre. But I have also made Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, a romantic drama and thriller Deewangi. So I hope that after this film people will say that I can make horror films too. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 will hit the theaters on May 20.
