Nitya’s strong debut in Para Badminton World Championships, Manisha’s easy win

Nitya Sri and Krishna Nagar pair registered a straight game 21-8 21-9 win over Yasmina Eisa and Ivan Segura Escobar in a mixed doubles SH6 Group A match at the BWF Para Badminton World Championships here. 17-year-old Nitya, making her debut in the competition, beat Hong Kong’s Lam Ching Yung 21-4 21-4 in just 15 minutes in her first Group B match of the women’s singles SH6 on Tuesday. Returning Paralympic champion and 2019 bronze medalist Nagar after eight months, Nagar had to work hard to beat Miles Krajewski of America 17-21, 21-16, 21-17 in a Grud D match of men’s singles SH6.

Nagar said, “His (Miles) game looks different now. He looks more powerful and has variety in his shots. Nice to see that the competition is increasing. I think I will have to work harder now.” Another Indian debutante Manisha Ramdas also eased 21-10, 21-5 over Spain’s Cristina Sández de Lechina Tejada in the women’s singles SU event. Won. In other women’s singles events, world number one and defending champion Mansi Joshi, Parul Parmar and Mandeep Kaur managed to register easy wins on day one.
