ACF honors Grandmaster D Gukesh with ‘Player of the Year’ award
Abu Dhabi. The Asian Chess Federation (ACF) honored Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh with the ‘Player of the Year’ award for winning the gold medal with a record score (9/11) at the 44th Chess Olympiad in Mahabalipuram last year. In March last year, Gukesh became the sixth Indian to cross the 2700 Elo rating mark and is also the youngest Grandmaster from the country to have a rating above 2700. The All India Chess Federation (AICF) bagged the ‘Most Active Federation’ award at the ACF annual convention here.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin was awarded the ‘Man of the Year’ award for his efforts in successfully hosting the FIDE Chess Olympiad in August last year at a short notice of four months. In the Indian women’s team, Koneru Humpy, D Harika, R Vaishali, Tania Sachdev and Bhakti Kulkarni were awarded the ‘Best Women’s Team of the Year’ award for winning the bronze medal while Grandmaster RB Ramesh won the ‘Coach of the Year’ award for men and Grandmaster Abhijeet Kunte was selected for the women’s ‘Coach of the Year’ award.
