Samson joined the Royals in 2018 for Rs 8 crore

Samson joined the Royals in 2018 for Rs 8 crore. He took over from Steve Smith as the captain of the Royals last season and although he failed to take the team to the IPL 2021 playoffs, he finished with 484 runs at a strike-rate of 137. England wicketkeeper Butler is expected to be signed on retention soon, but the status and availability of all-rounder Ben Stokes is still unclear. Stokes took a break from cricket in 2021 and returned to training even before the Ashes 2021. It will be a toss up between Livingstone, who was sensational for England in the T20 World Cup 2021, and Stokes to finish third behind Samson and Buttler.
